Long Black Coat Music & Lyrics © 2004 carrie clark He wears a long black coat when it rains to keep him dry He wears a long black coat when it rains to hide from the sky She wears a red velvet scarf when the snow falls in May She wears a red velvet scarf to give her comfort from the day He wears a ten gallon hat to fill with his ten million tears He still cries when he thinks of her even though its been so many years He carries a cross to his chest even when he doesn’t believe He carries a cross to his chest to take away his grief She wears a long yellow ribbon tied tightly in her hair She wears a long yellow ribbon so her soldier knows she cares He wears a ten gallon hat to fill with his ten million tears He still cries when he thinks of her even though it’s been so many years He wears a long black coat when it rains to keep him dry

Adeline 04:03
Adeline Lyrics © 2005 carrie clark Music © 2005 carrie clark, greg fulton, dayna smith Adeline was a wistful child haunted by dreams of an unknown harm would seek comfort from her father before the dew. Her father charmed would take her in his arms stroke her braids and tip back his head and say, Adeline, there’s no one else like you As she grew the dreams would too and until one day she had thought it through she would drive until the dreams lay in her wake. But anywhere she lay her head the dreams would come and they’d raise the dead. So she drives faster than the dreams can feed her pain Sun screams across the sky with the moon on its tail. She drives another hundred miles without the time to unleash her sails The highway miles they float on by much faster than she can gather ties to the ones she’s met then left so far behind. Cat tails turn into suburban trails truck stop malls and urban sprawls that blur the lines between county and state divides. Forgotten dreams split at the seams of those who try but cannot see, just lose sight of who they are and what to be A Whiskey neat and a smoke so sweet her wings would fly if she could lift her feet, So she drives as far as her head will lay her way. She’ll, light another cigarette, burn it through before she casts her net along the twisted road that drives her from her dreams Sun screams across the sky with the moon on its tail. She drives another hundred miles without the time to unleash her sails Long dirt roads lead her from, take her farther down will they bring her around or will Adeline just roam Sun screams across the sky with the moon on its tail. She drives another hundred miles without the time to unleash her sails So she drives another 1000 miles leaving the dead souls as they cry, Adeline, there’s no one else like you, Adeline, there’s no one else like you, Adeline, there’s no one else like you…

Josephine 03:07
Josephine Music and Lyrics © 2005 carrie clark Her name is Josephine. She writes poetry, when the moon is full, and she can use it’s pull. Her name is Josephine. A Cheshire grin with ruby lips she’ll melt you with her charm, but then will only bring you harm. Her name is Josephine. Jet black hair and cold blue eyes that drill into your soul and bleed you till you’re dry So bolt the doors shut off the lights, cause she’ll call unto the night. With her wildest charms she’ll find your arms and leave you high and dry. So bolt the doors shut off the lights, cause she’ll call unto the night. With temptation she’ll be knocking at your door A drop in the bucket is all you are to her. Fantasies and dreams only enrapture her. At the time, you hear her siren’s call she’ll summon your desires and then she won’t return your calls. Like a spider she’ll wrap you in her web, then she’ll suck you dry and leave your heart for dead So bolt the doors shut off the lights, cause she’ll call unto the night. With her wildest charms she’ll find your arms and leave you high and dry. So bolt the doors shut off the lights, cause she’ll call unto the night. With temptation she’ll be knocking at your door She’s ENCHANTING, daring, CHARMING, disarming. She’s PRECARIOUS, vivacious, RECKLESS and so devious. She’s WONDERFUL, magical, DECEITFUL make you maniacal. She’ll drive you till you’ve almost lost your mind. Her name is Josephine. She’ll drive you til you’ve almost lost your mind.

I saw you © carrie clark 2003 I saw you crying, love had left you once again I saw you weeping, following that worn road again I saw you trying to pick up the wings that once flew I saw the quiet break inside of you I saw you laughing as tears roll down your face I saw you bending to fall so far from grace I saw the kindness you wished he gave I saw you hovering above your grave Hovering, you reach to the sky. Quivering, you cry out why Shivering, you’ve been this way before. Love, love it’s not yours I saw you forgiving like an old faithful friend I saw you beginning to fall down again I saw that promise will you follow through I saw you hovering love should find you Hovering, you reach to the sky. Quivering, you cry out why Shivering, you’ve been this way before. Love, love it’s not yours I saw you crying, love had left you once again I saw you weeping, following that worn road again I saw you trying to pick up the wings that once flew I saw the quiet break inside of you Hovering, you reach to the sky. Quivering, you cry out why Shivering, you’ve been this way before. Love, oh love, oh love it’s not yours I saw you crying, love had left you once again I saw you weeping, following that worn road again I saw you trying to pick up the wings that once flew I saw the quiet break inside of you Hovering, you reach to the sky. Quivering, you cry out why Shivering, you’ve been this way before. Love, oh love, oh love it’s not yours

Have you heard them talking © 2004 Carrie Clark Have you heard them talking I hear life’s fine but John’s not walking through the mines anymore Though they say he’s just fine Like sand drifts The sun lifts Backs breaking the fields As the sun drops a young boy reveals Other names replace faces and traces of those before Closed doors and broken windows a life from the shadows before You are nothing lost to make something a search until they call You are nothing lost to make something a search until the aspen falls Have you heard them talking Naive and lost, or so it seems No longer part of this time No longer part of this day dream Other names replace faces and traces of those before Closed doors and broken windows a life from the shadows before You are nothing lost to make something a search until they call You are nothing lost to make something a search until the aspen falls Have you heard them talking

Just for Tonight Music & Lyrics © 2003 Carrie Clark Take off your shirt close the door, turn on the lights, well I am yours Yes I am yours, yes I’ll be yours, just for tonight. A little ice to cool my drink, pour me some wine so I can’t think That I’ll be yours, yes I am yours, just for tonight. I’m looking for a boy to bring this girl a little joy and woo me into the morning dew. I’m looking for a boy to be my little toy and play my games the whole night through. I don’t want no complications, no philosophical conversations. And I’ll be yours, yes I am yours, just for tonight Take off your shirt close the door, turn on the lights, well I am yours Yes I am yours, yes I’ll be yours, just for tonight. Spend the night whispering to me enacting out all our fantasies Cause I am yours, yes I am yours, just for tonight I’m looking for a boy to bring this girl a little joy and woo me into the morning dew. I’m looking for a boy to be my little toy and play my games the whole night through. And when the morning comes, the night will have faded with the charms. That I am yours, yes I am yours, just for tonight Because it can be so lonely Allowing the demons to run wild Temptation fulfilled is the only Way to forget what’s inside So take off your shirt and close the door, turn on the lights, well I am yours, yes I am yours, yes I’ll be yours, just for tonight. I’m looking for a boy to bring this girl a little joy and woo me into the morning dew. I’m looking for a boy to be my little toy and play my games the whole night through. And when the morning comes, the night will have faded with the charms, that I am yours, yes I am yours, just for tonight

Another Day 05:15
Another Day Lyrics & Music © 2003 carrie clark Wind blows dark the sky turns to grey Light a spark as another drifts away Kindred hearts find nothing in the ash Restless souls, the night fades to black Another day finds time to slip away Another year slipped and gone away No one here to take his sadness from his heart But the lone night and the ash succumbs, the dark Wind blows dark the sky turns to blue Palette shifts to a darker hue No one speaks a chill takes the air Quiet souls breathe in despair Another day finds time to slip away Another year slipped and gone away No one here to take his sadness from his heart But the lone night and the ash succumbs, the dark Eyes burn quiet tears are not alone Silence rings down to his bones Distance brings lovers to their knees Shadows pass quiet through the trees Wind blows dark the sky turns to grey Light a spark as another drifts away Kindred hearts find nothing in the ash Restless souls, the night fades to black Another day finds time to slip away Another year slipped and gone away No one here to take his sadness from his heart But the lone night and the ash succumbs, the dark

Let it Rain 04:33
Let it Rain Music & Lyrics © 1995 carrie clark Sadness creeps in frustrations, I give in. So many thoughts, I can’t let out So many tears, for so many years So let it rain, let it rain Fire inside, with passions that burn. To let it all out, when will I ever learn? I want to scream, but all I do is smile. And smother the flame So let it rain, let it rain, so let it rain, let it rain Hey mister, is that sunshine in your hand, Can life be so bright & balloons so red He said that rain clears away the sorrow making way for tomorrow So let it rain, let it rain, so let it rain, let it rain

Home Is… Lyrics & Music © 2004 carrie clark Armadillo artifacts, ranch tracks, cowboy hats King size roof racks, out of state tire tracks Mississippi neon green and LA technicolor magazine dream queen Palm trees, skinned knees, whiskey and seven if you please Here there and back again. It’s easy to forget what state you’re in County lines blend with picket signs and welfare lines Home is, home is, home is Mystified new age times, California red wines Jagged lines they hypnotize, empty signs, cocaine lines Metal bands, Australian fans, time change, Calgary’s rain, Stars shine, americanos to a climb 7000 feet to the top of the Long highway becomes a lonely night sky Dotted lines keep whizzing by, sage to fir And fir to sand, home is, home is Seems so civilized, you and me A place where you can lock them up throw away the key A land of lost votes, broken hopes A war no one asked for so who can be, so that she can be, so that he can be or who can be free Hard rock, mega blocks, chrome botts, halter tops Sunset strip, rocket ship, Harry’s gonna give another trip Dark eyes, bar room flies, cheese and green chili home fries No lies, let’s legalize, it’s all commercialized through the continental divide Here there and back again. Sweet Betty Blue Music & Lyrics © 2002 carrie clark Her mother wore pearls, took a hold of her world At 18 packed her bags to go. Off to the states, why bother to wait She was off to gain fortune and fame. A nurse in the war, she traveled so far Where was the future she had dreamed? A soldier soon called and despite of it all Born to this world Betty Blue Sweet Betty Blue, Sweet Betty Blue Only a child were you Sweet Betty Blue Sweet Betty Blue The world will not change just for you Growing up on a fast track, her mother she never looked back She was just a girl in her own mind. Her family she called and despite of it all She took off and left Betty Blue She tested her fate as she moved through the states Finding ways to escape responsibility and pain Of losing to war her soldier before She brought into this world Betty Blue Sweet Betty Blue, Sweet Betty Blue Only a child were you Sweet Betty Blue Sweet Betty Blue The world will not change just for you She followed her path, but she finally turned back Never found her fortune or her fame She took off her pearls, turned her back to the world And said Betty I’m coming home for you Sweet Betty Blue, Sweet Betty Blue Only a child were you Sweet Betty Blue Sweet Betty Blue The world will not change just for you

about

“If Margo Timmins of the Cowboy Junkies and Merle Haggard had a baby, she would have grown up to be Carrie Clark….Clark and company have crafted songs that explore and even celebrate humanity—all the while hinting at the darkness that lurks just beneath the surface of the civilized.” Mare Wakefield, Performing Songwriter

“Seems So Civilized, the new album by Clark and her band, the Lonesome Lovers, bears the stamp of her active mind and homegrown aesthetic. Drawing on classic country, blues, jazz, and cabaret, she proves as refreshing yet tricky to pin down as Nellie McKay.” Kurt B. Reighley, The Stranger

"The band Carrie Clark And The Lonesome Lovers has an album titled Seems So Civilized and its vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist Clark and her players run the gamut of chanteuse pop from stately almost-gospel like "I Saw You (Hovering)" to ribald sexy romps such as "Just For Tonight." These would be great songs to hear on a jukebox in a David Lynch film just before an FBI agent comes in to investigate the murder of a torch singer." Chris Estey - three imaginary girls astropop

"Carrie Clark has created, with her superb band and friends, a collection that portrays what she is up to, what she is capable of, and why she is one of the most creative artists working today in the Northwest. Truly, this completely fulfills the promise found in her first and second CDs. It is impossible to categorize, though she seems inclined to stress its country roots. To my ears, it goes well beyond any classification, ascending to a rich and varied sound all its own." Bill Fisher - Victory Review

“Throughout her ten years in the Seattle music scene, Carrie Clark has simply been known as, well, Carrie Clark. Even with her band in tow, she was always, simply Carrie Clark. If you think about it, it sounds lonesome. So Clark has decided to share the lonesomeness with band mates Dayna Smith on bass and Greg Fulton on guitar, by dubbing them The Lonesome Lovers. Hopefully, everyone will be happier now.” John Ginn - Eugene Weekly

Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers, joined forces with Toronto Producer, Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, Kinnie Starr, The Sadies, The New Pornographers) for her third independent release, “Seems So Civilized.” A musical juxtaposition of strength and fragility winding through an Americana set combining country, blues and cabaret music, “Seems So Civilized” is a true reflection in the growth Carrie has made as a songwriter and musician since her first CD, “Release the Butterfly.”

Carrie has been a fixture in Seattle's music scene for the last ten years. Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers perform regularly along the west coast and tour nationally. Their live shows have been described as captivating and engaging by fans and media alike. Carrie’s winsome voice travels from power to tenderness in one breath while charming audiences with songs about one night stands, love lust divas and dark lullabies. They have performed in venues such as Seattle’s Showbox, and Tractor Tavern as well as stages in San Francisco, Austin, Albuquerque, Nashville, LA and Phoenix sharing the stage with bands such as Jared Clifton (Radio Nationals), David Garza, Halou, Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”) Two Loons for Tea and Laura Veirs.

Oregon grown and brought up on Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Crystal Gayle records, Carrie is self taught on piano and guitar. Her self taught nature towards songwriting complemented by Fulton and Smith’s scholastic musical backgrounds has created a musical experience weaving dark melody lines and driving country rhythms. “I am a generally happy person, but songwriting seems to bring out the dark side of my emotions. You have to have both, so in order to stay happy, the darker side of me is given to the songs I write.” “Seems So Civilized,” is receiving national and international radio play including stations feature interviews on NPR radio programs and highlights in local and national media publications.

Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers are currently performing locally in Oregon and Washington with regular tours across the US and in Europe. Please visit www.carrieclark.com for tour information and new releases.

about

Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers Seattle, Washington

NW vocalist and songwriter Carrie Clark and her band The Lonesome Lovers draw from the broad palettes of Americana, folk, and rock to craft their own distinct flavor of modern pop honkey-tonk. Much like the Salish Sea which they call home, their new LP, Split At The Seams is expansive, just a touch rugged, and undeniably beautiful. ... more
